This short animated film by Ben Richardson and Daniel Bird was the highlight of my morning. Their 11 minute piece is an exploration of evolution fueled by competition and won Best Animated Short at Slamdance 2010.

JIM SANBORN | PHOTOGRAPHY

I ran across the work of Jim Sanborn last night right before turning in for bed. The images remained heavy in my memory as I drifted off to sleep before I arose a few hours later to look at them again. These images are from his work titled The Topographic Projections and Implied Geometries Series. According to the description on his website the images are shot on moonless nights with a large projection almost a 1/2 mile away from the subject/landscape. I can only speculate on the intricacies of his process from location selection, exposure length and camera selection.

The flatted distortion from the projected light on the landscape reminds me of cast light from the headlights of a car on a empty road. The geometric patterns counter act the flattened distortion by bringing depth back into the images instilling a surreal dream quality to these night photographs.

Kevin Cooley's works are beautiful and surreal with an isolated transcendentalism feeling to them. His landscapes are calm observations of nature with and without the influence of man. I love the combination of long exposures and the introduction of light. His work featuring the human element is also quite compelling. The vastness of our environment when put to scale by a single human form is a reminder of how small we truly are. In September I started working for The North Face. [I'm the Photo and Video Coordinator and my role is to create product photography and videos for our website, TheNorthFace.com, and for internal and external marketing use. The role has been beyond rewarding and I'm very happy with the work I'm doing and the teams I'm collaborating with.] While discussing brand design and direction with a coworker recently the TNFlook.com site came up. TNFlook is a Japanese version of The North Face. It is run separately and independently from the brand I work with daily. I like the styling, aesthetic and functionality of the TNFlook site. Below are screen captures from the sites animations showing the products layering story. These styles of animations have gained a bit of notoriety and hipster acclaim lately. I too have dabbled in these animations in both my IandI series and Press-X series. I really enjoy the bold difference in the brand interpretation and the site experience.

Note how great one can look with a tie and a jacket from The North Face. [A reference only one who knows how much I miss wearing a tie daily will understand]

The site has a travel gallery feature that includes images taken from around the world. I love images like this from the casual observer or amateur photographer. I used to work in a printing lab in Lawrence, Kansas and always enjoyed seeing vacation photos from places I've never been.

SIENNA FREEMAN | COLLAGES

I ran across Sienna Freeman's work in a post from Hi Fructose Magazine earlier this year. Freeman combines her own photography and drawings with found imagery and materials in resin. Her works remind me of Terry Gilliam's animations yet where Gilliam's work uses non sequitur campy humor Freeman's work juxtaposes surreal sexual imagery with implied psychological tones. Her work is featured currently at "Spirit Board," A Ouija themed group show at Loved To Death's Articulated Gallery in the Upper Haight. I'm looking forward to heading there this week to see the work first hand.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC | AURORA BOREALIS

I'm grown a bit obsessed with the aurora borealis. I partially blame Neil Young's Pocahontas and my hope that I'll bump into him one day in Half Moon Bay now that I've been spending more time down there with my in-laws. Regardless of where the strange attraction comes from I really love this video from National Geographic. This time lapse of the Northern Lights in Norway is like nothing I've seen before. I hope one day to see this natural phenomenon in person, maybe while listening to Neil Young.

Andrew Hem is a Cambodian painter living in Los Angeles. According to his website he fled Cambodia with his parents after the Khmer Rouge Genocide. I love the color palette, the hues of blue are really comforting and I like the minor distortions in his figure work. I wanted to share a video by Nathan Seabrook that I've found inspiring. Seabrook is an artist, photographer and budding director here in San Francisco. I've known and worked with him for over a year or so now and his passion is really compelling. His vision in his newest piece, a music video for Yuba Diamond, is told through old fashioned film techniques including stop motion animation and projecting backgrounds. I stumbled across Jonathan de Villiers work via Black Harbor tonight. I love the frozen moments and his careful use of broad lighting and fill. The images remind me of the illustrations commonly found in vintage magazines or how to guides except their exceptionally edited and composed. His use of strong colors, especially black backgrounds are striking and inspiring and make his editorial coverage look more like carefully art directed commercial work.

I do want to bring attention to what has happened to the site where the towers used to stand and reflect on the day I ascended the stairs from the subway to accidentally stumble upon the site and that eerie tingle that rose up my spine reminding me that I wasn't alone at this place.

GULP | WORLD'S LARGEST STOP MOTION BY SUMO SCIENCE

GULP is the 'world's largest stop-motion animation' and latest endeavor from Sumo Science, the animation and direction team that brought you the 'worlds smallest stop-motion animation', Dot (also shot on the Nokia N8). This piece is quite and underpinning, shot outdoors over a day on a beach with a large film crew of volunteers and animation experts, cranes and the Nokia N8 for all the still captures. Using only the N8 for the largest and smallest stop motion animations Sumo Science has just avoided pandering to a gimmick by making a cleaver piece with GULP. With a run time of 1:46 it's a quick reminder of what technology can enable with a creative mind at the controls and a little funding from a company that wants their product to be shared.

I love this preview for a new series by Luke Pearson called Everything We Miss, which you can order through his website - lukepearson.com. I haven't picked up a copy yet but it's next on my list of things to read. Maybe on a beach in Mexico in August. I'm fairly new to Pearson's work but his work story telling feels less like a comic and speaks in a pop art fashion to the non-comic book reader in a great illustrated voice.

I've never really been incredibly impressed with food photography. There tends to be a style that sells and art directors, stylists and photographers tend to not deviate. However a shining ray of light of inspiration comes from Sam Hofman whose recent clients include Weiden + Kennedy, HarperCollins and the BBC. Hofman says on Feature Shoot ‘I’m interested in using food as objects rather than something you would necessary eat, as well as exploring still life’s more experimental and playful side.' An infectious tunes with Go Outside, an album you can preorder on line (but isn't available until December 23) and a really great video that deserves to be shared. They're playing tonight at The Bottom of the Hill here in San Francisco and I'm at home.
NOTE : After doing little more research, listening to some live performances and searching for a little more background I suggest enjoying this video and this song now because in 3 months, before you can get the EP, it will feel silly to still enjoy this one hit wonder.

I ran across Petrina Hicks photography today. I was instantly struck by her color palette and compositions. Her imagery is reminiscent of another one of my favorite photographer/director, Charlie White. Hicks hails from Australia and is quite a prolific artist, showing her work since 2002. Her series The Performance, Every Rose Has It's Thorn and Beautiful Creatures are my favorite of her works and reflect a very refined and precise knowledge her craft. I love the use of line, composition, palette and music. It's refreshing to stumble upon and share inspiring work after being absent from reading/following any of the blogs I usually keep up with.

I discovered Reed & Radar in 2010 and I've been very inspired by their animations. I can honestly say it's shown up in several of my own works - specifically iandi. Their latest editorial piece for V Magazine is every bit as compelling as what originally attracted me to their work, the subtle motion. I love the still figures as they come to life like little dolls and the repetition with the .gif format shows a sense of humor commonly lacking in fashion spreads.

ALLISON SCHULNIK | NERMAN MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

While back in Kansas City for the holiday I visited The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. The Nerman is on the campus of Johnson County Community College. I've always enjoyed the modern art sculptures scattered across the campus, in their collection and now at this new contemporary, minimalist building. I had never been in the museum which opened in October 2007 and was impressed, even surprised by the collection. I could have easily been in a modern gallery in a major city like LA, NY or SF, not on community college campus in suburban Kansas. My friend Whitney works there and I was fortunate to get a private tour through the museum when it was closed on a Monday. I really liked the installation work of Anne Lindberg's Raume Yellow, and the Allison Schulnik, Skipping Skeleton's. Whitney told me the Nerman had another piece of Schulnik's in storage and she took me to the storage space see the piece wrapped in a plastic and wood 9 ft shipping container. I love seeing art out of the usual public viewing context, be it in the artist's studio or in the storage space before it goes up into the ideal viewing space. Schulnik's paintings looks like cake icing and makes the brush strokes in Van Gogh's work look callow in comparison. I imagine her work takes a long time to dry and is heavy to transport and hang. The works are haunting and beautiful in their flow and narration. Her use of nuanced color heightens the dimensionality of her paint application. I love her claymation video for one of my favorite bands, Grizzly Bear but her paintings are by far my favorite.

POLISH STREET ART : PRZEMEK BLEJZYK

Street and graffiti art is an art form I have mixed feelings about. In recent years there has been a huge surge in popularity and attention to this medium, especially in my home of San Francisco. I respect the work Upper Playground has done to unify, brand and market street artist's work and the mural work 1 AM has done in The Tenderloin on Golden Gate is a beautiful addition to the blighted neighborhood. I think the amount of Juxtapose-esque cartoon graffiti artists and toys borders ad nauseum in the art world. When I first saw Zupi.org's post on Polish Street Art I had my doubts about seeing anything new. I was amazed when I saw the work of Blejzyk, who also works under the name Sainer. His street art is less like graffiti and more like using walls as large canvases for his paintings, which are also beautiful. I love his use of line, form and perspective distortion, space and color palette. Some of the posted works are done in collaboration with other artists, specifically Bezt on the mural works. This 7:57 short borders chaos with intricate pieces and a driving score but remains captivating in it's order and form. It's like a dreamscape of Eastern European folklore. I don't know much about this piece except from what I found on We Find Wildness blog. According to WFW this short was done during Paganelli's artist in residency in Serbia and is on display at Kunsthalle Mulhouse until January 9, 2011.

My New York Diary: A Film-Book by Julie Doucet and Michel Gondry

A long time fan of illustration and film, especially the work of Michel Gondry, this book and DVD are very exciting for me. This book is a collaboration between illustrator Julie Doucet and and Michel Gondry. In 2008, Gondry asked Doucet to make a film together. The book is about that process and inserts Doucet and her drawings into one narrative and an 18 minute film. It is available for purchase on Picturebox and according to the CoolHunting.com post I saw this at originally Gondry will be signing copies in LA on November 11. It's almost worth a trip south to LA.

Chris Beckman blew me away with the editing on this appropriated video pieced together with Youtube clips. I watched it 3 times today. His use of sound makes the transitions between clips work so well. While your watching it, turn down the brightness of your screen and or close your eyes and just listen. Beckman is the 2010 Vimeo Award Winner in the experimental category. Max Oppenheim and Black Hole

I have a long history of obsession with the illustrated medium. From pencils and crayons in elementary school, comic books in middle school and sharpies on walls in high school I still love the medium. As a photographer working digitally I love seeing artists recreate illustrated art into a photographic medium. Max Oppenheim and prosthetic artist Bill Turpin have taken the series Black Hole by Charles Burns and made the series that ended in 2005 relevant again in 2010.

MR. ANDERSON'S BIRTHDAY by Thomas Broening

If you're not familiar with Thomas Broening's photography consider this your cue to look into his work. He's local to San Francisco and I've been an admirer of his work since 2006. Recently he's been doing a series of shorts around a character named Mr. Anderson. I really like his transition to video because he's using the medium to tell a story. A lot of photographers have tried making the jump to video. Video has become more accessible with the digital SLRs, however pursuing a medium just because you can doesn't necessarily make it a worthy pursuit. A friend of mine, Zan McQuade, scribbled into my notebook a paraphrasing of a quote she heard Braden King say at an event she was covering at Sundance that has stuck with me. I looked it up today to share.

"The film or the song or the painting isn't the thing," said King, adding that it's the medium to get at the mystery. Film, to King, is "a piece of fabric you can drape over an unseeable thing to give it form." -Zan McQuade from Obsolescence and Sustainability.

LCD Soundsystem is quickly becoming one of my favorite musical influences. I think James Murphy might be a musical genius and his influence on what is current and relevant in the world of design and video is more than notable. Michael Vadino's work with LCD Soundsystem dates back to their first album. The video below is from the "That's Cool, But Can You Make It More Shit?" exhibition at the Tom Dunne Gallery of Vadino's work and was featured on the LCD Soundsystem site.

IKEA for the cats

IKEA released 100 cats into a London store for their new commercial. Mother London is the agency responsible for this part of the campaign. If you've ever been to an IKEA you'll recognize a bit of personified and anthropomorphic cat behavior. It has viral written all over it. I saw this posted on AdFreak and heard about it on NPR this morning. Youtube is already overloaded with cute cats and I can't begin to imagine the play this is going to get. RIGHT PLACE by KOSAI SEKINE

This short by Kosai Sekine about an idiosyncratic and eccentric store clerk finding his place won Best Short Film at Young Directors Award Cannes in 2006 and Best Foreign Film Award at New York City Short Film Festival. I love the use of color, type A product positioning and musical scoring. The short reminds the viewer that we all have our right place, no matter how misplaced we may feel. I've been a fan of Nan Goldin's available light photography since I discovered her work in Journalism school at The University of Kansas. This most recent shoot is like a PG version of her early work's in the late 70's and early 80's. I still find her work compelling and beautiful, especially the inclusion of Erin Wasson as the subject and model.

I've always loved Scorsese's lighting and story telling. At first I was skeptical of a Scorsese directed ad. The 1:01 run time of this ad is perfect. His lighting, styling, camera work and colors are on par with his other work. I love seeing an artist branch into a different medium while staying true to their stylistic vision.

The work in Tierney Gearon's series Explosure struck a strong cord with me today. Her work with film is truly an art form. Using double exposure in camera and using no digital post production or retouching her work is almost serendipitous while calculated. The subtle and suggested narratives paired with the ghosting images gives Gearson's work a surreal and ethereal quality. I am truly inspired by her work. Theo Mercier's work is the most amazing thing I've stumbled upon all week (which includes a viewing of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and a man arguing with a goat that made me nearly piss myself the 18 times I watched it). Since March of 2008 I have been posting primarily work of my own on this blog. Earlier this year in an attempt to unify my web presence I transferred this blog's content to another blog on my url and began blogging my work there. I've recently started utilizing Google Reader and found inspiration in other countless blog posts that I want to re-post. Enter the subject head and an announcement of a change in content for this blog. From today on I plan on utilizing this blog to post about things I find inspiration in that I'd like to share with the faceless masses. My desire to share inspiration comes from an exhibit I visited at Pier 24 here in San Francisco. After prints from Richard Avedon, Larry Clark, Phillip-Lorca diCorcia, Jeff Wall, Todd Hido and Diane Arbus sent chills up my spine I thought it only fitting to share this with the rest of the world. The exhibit space at Pier 24 is something every photographer and fan of photography should visit. The space is limited, you have to make a reservation for a tour and the current exhibit leaves at the end of this week. Tuesday, June 1st at 8:30 a.m. PST I will be shooting a stop-motion animation for Lafitte, a brand new and exciting restaurant from dissident chef Russell Jackson. We're going to be shooting in the restaurant and they have a web camera with a live feed into their kitchen. It's no accident that this camera happens to point right where we'll be shooting. Several months ago while culling through a shoot I did with Kristin in December, I noticed a poignant nuance in a series of frames. I made a mental note of it and moved on. This week those images came back out again and became part of a new motion animation. By combining the images from my (th)ink tank images and the images from Dichotomy in December, I have put together a new animation called 'inktank'. This is the first in a series I'll be starting this summer after I return from work in New Orleans and Las Vegas. Friday I had a chance to shoot with Katherine Mathis. Katherine is a mutual friend who runs a marketing and branding company, Revolver Studios, and has a very well read and interesting view on art. We had tried to find the right inspiration and project to exercise our creative muscles with since late 2009 to no avail. Serendipity smiled and we both had a free afternoon but were without a plan for the end product. Throwing ourselves into the creative process we crafted a stop motion animation that happened completely organically on an ad hoc basis. Shooting stills for a stop motion animation is the first step and the editing process has yet to begin. I wanted to share the closing shot before next week brings me back into Sandbox Studio and the hustle of a new week begins.

I do enjoy the light right in between night and day and the light right at day break. Magic hour. In 2004 I took a cab from North Beach to Noe Valley with Tyler and Megan. There was something about that cab ride that I really loved. My guess is the speed we were traveling combined with the revelry earlier in the evening made such an impression on me. This is my homage to that night and to one of my favorite landmarks in San Francisco.

SUNDANCE WRAP UP 2010

Saturday night was the last night of the Sundance Film Festival. I shot the awards ceremony with Calvin Knight and the other press photographers. Our video crew did a live feed of the presentation on the site and we posted photos as the awards were announced. It was quite an experience. Watching film makers reactions as they receive accolades for their hard work at a festival that really tries to support artists is truly an honor.

Immediately following the presentation the award site turns into a huge reception and party. Ticket holders drank and mingled with the filmmakers. Yours truly enjoyed the festivities at two venues; the before mentioned Awards After Party and at Late Night Lounge, a venue for filmmakers and institute members. Both parties were tons of fun and were a welcomed end to a great festival.

Late Night Lounge

We saw the shorts presentation on Sunday morning. The Shorts Program at The Festival is one of my favorite parts of the experience. I shot the awards show for The Shorts Program earlier in the week. It was good to see both the US and World winners; 'Drunk History' 'Six Dollar Fifty Man' and 'Dock Ellis & the LSD No No'. My favorite film this year is a toss up between two films. 'The Kids Are Alright', which got picked up and will be released. It's a light hearted family story of two lesbians whose children find their biological father and the hi-jinks that ensue. My other favorite 'Enter The Void' was a dark and psychedelic drug movie based around the Tibetan Book of The Dead. This film was also picked up by IFC and has been edited down, which the run time really needed. It's an intense film. I also caught Tucker and Dale Vs Evil and HIGH School which are safe bets for cult classic status.Jury Prize in U.S. Short Filmmaking – Drunk History

TWELVE

Last night I saw the premier of Joel Schumacher's new film Twelve. It's an adaptation of Nick McDonell's novel of the same title. Imagine Bret Easton Ellis' Rules of Attraction, St. Elmo's Fire and Gossip Girl thrown into a blender with 50 Cent and a Sundance audience. My review is mixed. I liked the character study and the simplicity of the film but found it to be a little slow, cheesy and heavy handed in parts. I've seen better and worse. It was an entertaining film at the price I paid for the free staff ticket. I'm by no stretch of the imagination a film critic, just a photographer at Sundance.

This year The Sundance Institute has created a new category for films called NEXT. The category is based on making a film with little to no budget. There's no epic explosions or big name actors in these. This category is super inspiring to me. The filmmakers are really trying to put a lot of emphasis on a lost piece of some modern cinema - Storytelling. I shot during a discussing this morning. The discussion was a live stream from the Sundance site. I haven't seen any of these films yet but I do hope to catch them before The Festival runs its course, specifically One Too Many Mornings and The Freebie.

LYLE LOVETT

I have never considered myself a fan of Lyle Lovett. I've seen him at SXSW in 2006 and was less than impressed. I'm not real familiar with his music and when I was asked to shoot the show I confess, I drug my feet to get there. With all this said I was really impressed with the music. Lovett played with John Hiatt at The Sundance House on Sunday January 24. It was a relaxed show and Hiatt bantered back and forth with Lovett like they were practicing for their own stand up routine. I have officially changed my opinion of the music.

This week has been filled with lots of shooting. I've been in press lines inside warm buildings and outside in 17 degree weather. I've scrambled to get to a Q&A to find that not only is Naomi Watts there but also Samuel L Jackson. I've met up with other photographer friends from Festivals past at art exhibits. I've gone to a 3 hour long movie based around the Tibetan Book of the Dead that melted my mind with it's psychedelic context. I've watched well known actors brave the cold to take a photo with adoring fans. I was inspired after meeting an artist from Oakland who's Bordertown installation blew me away. It's been a great time so far.

PRESS LINE

Last night I shot on the press line for the premier of Cyrus. This was my first experience shooting on a press line for a film. My commercial work doesn't typically require this sort of activity. I don't usually stand with the throngs of other media members waiting to catch a brief interview or a fleeting glimpse into a lens. The press line can be a messy thing. People scramble over each other to get as much time from one personality as possible. It's a strange process that doesn't really translate into the work I get paid to do. After trying to shoot like the rest of the shooters when Jonah Hill walked in I said screw it. The Sundance Institute has plenty of access to the typical shot of an actor or director on the press line. I would prefer to give them access to creative content they can't find anywhere else. It also helps when you know the directors from years past and walk in with the Director of The Sundance Film Festival, John Cooper.

I don't typically hunt down subjects and surprise them for a photo. However when you are going to photograph Pararazzi Godfather, Ron Galella it seems fitting. Ron is the subject of Smash His Camera, premiering at The Sundance Film Festival Saturday January 22, 2010. Carl Moczylodwsky and I drove down to the Salt Lake City International Airport early this morning to catch Ron coming off the plane. It really was a pleasure to meet a living legend in the world of celebrity photography.

As a young child I was a huge fan of Masters Of The Universe and Star Wars. I thought I was either a young Prince Adam or Luke Skywalker. My mortal enemies were Skeletor and the embodiment of The Darkside, Darth Vader. Unfortunately as time passed the action figures I collected as a child have been lost in the mix and I have discovered I don't harness The Power of Grayskull or The Force. I did however find my Skeletor action figure on a recent trip back to my childhood home in Kansas City.

This summer I had an assignment for Portland Monthly to shoot a photo illustration about a nearly vacant property. I asked the property management company to have as many lights out in the building as possible. Unfortunately I didn't get as many lights blacked out as I'd hoped. I got a chance to turn those lights out this weekend and to make the photo as I saw it. Controlling a shoot from behind the camera is essential to my work but occasionally when extraneous details hinder the vision, post production is a lifesaver. The first image is as the scene was and the later image is the final piece.

HOMEWARD BOUND : SAN FRANCISCO

This month marks a new home base for my photography. I’ll be returning to San Francisco after living in Portland. I am very excited to announce this second chance to live in the vibrant city again. I put together an animated piece for the studio I work with, Sandbox Studio. This video is from an art party we had at the studio in conjunction with Office PDX and is comprised of the images attendees shot of themselves. I built and lit the photo booth for the party and Cory Zimmerman wrote the action scripts that automated the multiple capture. It's also on the Sandbox blog. The September issue of Portland Monthly has a little piece I did. It is a story on the development in the South Waterfront District in SW Portland. There are several very beautiful tall condominium buildings that are mostly vacant. I shot this with remote slaves from an adjacent building 15 stories up. I won't spill all the beans about the story or the shoot so you'll pick up a copy on the newsstands. Here is the image from one of the virtually empty condos. In the last month I have found a donut shop with in walking distance to my place. Thank God for Coco Donuts. Their donuts are simple like Delicious Donuts. The atmosphere inside is cute; pink accents, polished silver surfaces and clean lines with lots of available light. The donuts are light hence the inspiration for this photo.

This weekend my wonderful friend Courtney Cummins came to Portland to play. We did some testing with Meredith and Roze, model and hair stylist respectively. I met Blake Britton at his show A Time For Lions with Jonny Fenix at Nemo Design several months ago. I was floored with Blakes sculptures. They were hauntingly beautiful, full of subtle imagery and references to masculinity, and commandingly hung at eye level. Jonny's work was equally compelling I just felt drawn to the 3 dimensional aspect of the show. Britton does altered taxidermy mounts with bondo and cast rubber. Proactive vs Retroactive

After driving home from showing my book to a client I began to contemplate the content of my book. For the longest time my book has been retroactive. Working in photojournalism and editorially many of my clients wanted to see work I've done for other publications. My client base has moved into a different direction, away from the printed weekly and monthly mediums into a more evergreen advertising world. I'm not discrediting the work I have done for past clients, I'm proud of the work, it's just not where I'm headed or at now. I've been doing some shooting work to help me find the voice I have now. The visual voice I'd prefer to speak with. Proactive opposed to Retroactive. As I piece together the work I'm doing now I'm going to publish them here first. This is the first in the series I'm doing now. The working title of the book is 'visions', working title only because 'visions' has a ridiculous connotation. These images are coming from a place that begins in my head an not in a previously published or existing medium. I'm trying to find that happy medium between my early roots in illustration and the photographic medium I've grown into.

Last Saturday I debuted a video at Slideluck Potshow in the newly opened Sandbox Studio PDX. The stop motion video was shorter than most submissions to Slideluck but more coherent and imaginative (in my ever so humble and non biased opinion). It was a fun show with a large turnout. The studio space is quite large and it was good to see it filled with excited masses. I am proud to show the video here. Enjoy.

DELICIOUS DONUTS

Only one of these donuts actually came from Delicious Donuts here in Portland. They both were delicious none the less. If anyone were to ever ask me to devote my entire life to a quest for the Holy Grail of Donuts (The donut Jesus broke, blessed and dunked in his wine before passing it to the 12 dwarves, err disciples) I would. I'd scour the earth - pillaging like Crusaders of lore. Alas, I need to stay here in the rational world and make amazing photographs of donuts to share with the world.

DETROIT LAKE

This weekend marked my brother's 26th birthday so we celebrated in a cabin on Detroit Lake. The lake water level was low for the winter so we could walk out onto a place that in the summer is 20 to 30 feet below water. It was a great time with lots of food, booze, friends and laughs.
